Russian President Vladimir Putin has held telephone talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. In both cases, the initiative to hold these talks was not from the Russian side.

The official website of the Kremlin has reported: “Exchanging views on the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa, including the problems of crisis in Syria and Libya is going on”.

During the talks with Alexis Tsipras, Vladimir Putin also focused on the issues related to the resolution of the Syrian conflict. Moreover, Greece played the important role by opening its ports to Russian ships in spite of Washington's orders. Greek Prime Minister, in turn, discussed with the Russian leader prospects of settlement of the Cyprus question. Probably, taking into consideration the relationship between Moscow and Ankara, some mutually beneficial arrangements were discussed during these talks.
