The overwhelming majority of European citizens are in favor of normalizing relations with Russia, knowing perfectly well that the sanctions confrontation only exacerbates the situation.

This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the French Institute of Public Opinion in Germany, Italy, UK and France in early October this year.

Respondents were asked to answer the question: “Sanctions and counter-sanctions have led to the fact that relations between the European Union and Russia continue to deteriorate. Would you like the relations between the EU and Russia to normalize in the foreseeable future?

As it turned out, most of the supporters of friendship with Russia are in Germany. Here, 84% of respondents answered positively and only 10% were against it. 6% were unable to answer.

The second place was occupied by Italians, 78% of whom wanted to avoid the sanctions confrontation for the sake of improving relations with Russia. At the same time, 13% were in favour of continuing the current destructive policy, while 9% found it difficult to answer.

The French are only 3% behind the Italians. Thus, 75% of respondents were in favor of friendship with Russia against 13% of those who are in favor of the current course. 12% – could not answer the question.

In the United Kingdom, despite the very Russophobic policy of recent years, the rate of supporters of normalization of relations is slightly lower and is 68%. In contrast, 16 per cent found it just as difficult to answer.

It is also worth noting that the most proponents of Russophobic policy was among young people who were most affected by Western anti-Russian propaganda.
