Increase in executions in Saudi Arabia concerns human rights activists

This year in Saudi Arabia, 82 people have already been executed, which exceeds the figure for the same period in 2015 by twofold. This information was made public by the organization Reprieve, according to which the Saudis have exceeded the record for executions.

Statistics

The number of executions in 2015 totaled 158 people, and in 2014 - 88. According to Reprieve, this year the Saudis plan to behead 320 of their citizens.

The massacre of opponents

Officially, the Saudi authorities say that the death penalty is reserved for those who are associated with terrorism, including members of ISIS. In fact, the majority of verdicts are handed down to people who have been involved in acts of protest. In doing this, Saudi Arabia is practically acting as a source of state terrorism.

Responsibility of killing

In essence, the decision on the imposition of the death penalty falls on one person: the Minister of Internal Affairs - Crown Prince Muhammad bin Nayef. The non-interference of the partner of Saudi Arabia, the United States, which is sensitive to the protection of human rights, is quite telling. For other states that Washington and its satellites deem as “undemocratic", the doctrine of "responsibility to protect” is used, according to which humanitarian intervention in countries where human rights are violated can be carried out; this does not happen in relation to Saudi Arabia.
