Iceland: early parliamentarian elections

The initial election results are reported to show that Iceland’s right-of-center coalition government will not retain its majority in Iceland’s parliament.

According to the first election results, the Pirate Party is in third place with about 13% of the vote with about a third of votes counted. The Left-Green Movement has got 16% and the Centre-Right Independence Party is in the lead with 30%.

The Pirate Party, as well as supporting its left-wing organizations, advances an idea of solving all important issues in referendums.

Early elections had to start because of some scandals with offshore companies, in which government officials were involved, including Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, who immediately resigned after the publication of this information.
