The third Chinese general committed suicide during the week

Major General of People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) Chen Jie committed suicide. As reported on Saturday, August 20, South China Morning Post newspaper, his body was found on August 5 in barracks, located in Shenzhen (Guangdong Province), but became aware of what had happened only on 19 August.

According to the publication, the cause of death was an overdose of sleeping pills, this information was confirmed by two independent sources.

Chen Jie turned 54. He was known by the participating in the organization of procedures for the transfer of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty in 1997. He quickly rose through the ranks, most recently he served as a political commissar and took his own life just hours before the next increase.

Over the last week is the third case of suicide among senior Chinese military. According to experts, they are linked with anti-corruption investigations, which is currently leading in the ranks of the PLA. However, an informed source told the media that there is no convincing evidence that the death of Chen Jie is linked to the possible involvement in bribery.
