Mexicans are coming
The Washington Post revealed plans of the US Department of Homeland Security to deport a huge amount of Hispanic Americans from the USA. It may target hundreds of Central American families in the U.S. who have evaded removal orders. Raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a DHS unit, would begin in January 2016. The measures are aimed to contain the wave of immigration from Central America, especially Mexico, but will never curb the situation. Desperate measures harshly criticized by liberal public before the start show the significance of the problem both for the USA and the world.
Peaceful Reconquista
The major part of the territories of the US West is the former territory of Mexico, which was annexed by the USA in the XIX century. It includes the lands of the following American states: California, Texas. New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. Today the southwestern part of the USA is a main destination for Latin Americans, mostly Mexican Immigrants. According to various recent data collections, Hispanic Americans today constitute about 17% of the US population. It is the most rapidly growing racial and cultural group. They are the only major minority group who has a territorial claim to the US and is territorially linked to their home country.
The problem of identity
Latin Americans are a major identity problem for the USA. Unlike immigrants from Europe, who previously came to disappear in America’s melting pot, Latin Americans were formed as cultural groups on the same continent, as a result of practices and values different from the Anglo-Saxon North America. Descendants of American native people and Spanish conquistadores, they formed their identity based on the Catholic religiosity, native cults and traditions and self-representation as native people rather than immigrants. In his book “Who we are”, Samuel Huntington saw Latin American Catholic immigration as the most serious challenge for American Protestant identity and therefore for the future of the United States.
The rise of anti-Hispanic sentiments
The unwillingness of the Mexican American community to lose its identity, intercultural problems, the inevitable clash of cultures, and the export of criminal networks from Latin America provokes fear amongst large part of white Americans. This is manifested in the support of politicians like Donald Trump, who offends Latin Americans and proposes harsh measures to prevent migration.
The problem of liberalism
The core of the problem is in liberal ideology that has no reason to stop immigration to the USA. For liberals, national identity is not the thing that should be preserved. It is only a form of collective identity that suppresses the liberty of the individual to be what he or she wants. According to liberal ideology of human rights, it is unhuman to deport migrants or to impose on them a certain stile of life, language, set of values. The plans to deport immigrant has yet to provoke anger in the circles of human rights defenders.
The problem of American identity is that it is liberal at its essence. Its universalist mission of promoting freedom and human rights to attract all the people of the world undermines the particular understanding of America as a distinct nation. The problem of capitalism
One more pillar of American identity is the religious worship of the free-market. It is dogmatic, especially in the ranks of those who pretend to safeguard American identity and oppose migration influx. Right-wing republicans and self-described libertarians reject the consequences of their own ideology. Cheap labor is much more attractive for businesses, and according to free market rules, there should not be any restrictions on the import of labor force from Mexico.
In the era of a transnational character of capital and business, the labor force has become more transnational. Big corporations are not concerned with the ethnicity, race or cultural features of people who work and those who consume their goods. In a global world, the elite and masses should become global and rootless. Defenders of American identity do not want to recognize that the thing they try to salvage is self-destructive. The worms that eat the flesh of American Nation were born in the heart of American principles of liberty, human rights, individualism and capitalism.
Coming American fascism
Americans of European origin have today become a minority in their own country. According to the official US census projection, in 2060 the share of non-whites will consist 56, 4% of total population, while Latin Americans will become the largest minority group (28, 6% of total population). It will certainly change the face of the American nation. It will coincide with the decline of American hegemony as a global trend that will reflect negatively on domestic politics. There are two directions the situation can evolve. The first is the USA becomes an inner-broken country of the third world with estranged communities and indefinite future. The second is a dictatorship and a kind of apartheid regime to save Anglo-Saxon identity. These two ways are not alternatives. It is more likely they will replace one another.
