The China Defense Forum

The Seventh Xiangshan forum was opened in Beijing. The representatives of the defense and law enforcement agencies from 59 countries and 6 international organizations take part in this forum. The Academy of Military Sciences of China and the Chinese Society of International Strategy are the sponsors of this event.

The forum is traditionally dedicated to the problems of the Asia-Pacific region. This year the construction of a new type of interstate relations will be a central theme. Despite the fact that among of the stated themes, one is mostly counter-terrorism; it is also likely that the issues connected with the American expansion in the region are going to be raised. This fact was indirectly privately confirmed by the participants from some countries.

In particular, during the conference concerning the identification of the army's role in the global governance the question about military bases on the territories of other countries is probably going to be discussed.
It needs to be mentioned that at the same time in Trinidad and Tobago the pro-American defense ministerial summit of the Western Hemisphere is passing, in the course of which the representatives of the traditional Atlanticism are developping a general strategy.
