Russia will increase its Air-Force presence in Syria

A draft law of the agreement with Syria on the placement of the Russian Armed Forces aviation group in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic was submitted by Vladimir Putin to the State Duma .

The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Defense of Russia and Syria in Damascus on August 26, 2015.

The text stresses that "the presence of Russian aviation group on the territory of Syria meets the objectives of maintaining peace and stability in the region, holds adefensive nature and is not directed against other states."

Russian presence in Syria has been key to combating US-backed terrorists of ISIS and other groups.
