In response to the statement by Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar about the importance of Sino-Indian relations for both countries and the whole world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Wenbin stressed the special status of the two countries as the largest developing economies.  According to him, bilateral cooperation not only gives impetus to their own development, but also contributes to global peace and prosperity, Xinhua reported on August 5.

Speaking for a gradual normalization of bilateral relations and maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, the Indian minister spoke in favor of achieving a balance with China, and also noted the need for China's increased attention to India.
In his speech at a departmental briefing in Beijing, Wang Wenbing emphasized that in China the statement of the Indian Foreign Minister was noticed and "paid attention to the relevant publications in the media."  The diplomat stressed the need for constant consultations to avoid the escalation of border problems and expressed the hope that Delhi would meet the PRC halfway and make efforts to jointly protect bilateral relations.
