Taiwan "shoots at" China

A supersonic missile was fired at China by mistake.

 

Details of the incident

The Hsiung-feng III missile made in Taiwan, known as the "aircraft carrier killer" with a range of 300 kilometers, was launched from the patrol ship Chinchiang. The missile fell after flying 75 kilometers in the Taiwan Strait near the islands of Penghu (the Pescadores). In this case, no one was hurt. Navy Vice Admiral Taiwan Mei Chia-shu has already said that the incident is being investigated. The island has urgently convened a national security conference.

 

The general deterioration of relations

After winning the presidential election, the candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Tsai Ing-wen, greatly reduced political contacts between Taiwan and China. DPP advocates Taiwanese independence from China and was the first to control the legislature.

This case can worsen the already strained relations between China and Taiwan. It is obvious that China will point to problems with the control of weapons systems to Taiwan and accuse the authorities of the island of irresponsibility. But the main political and military ally of the island, the United States, will declare its innocence, since the missile is produced locally.
