DPRK blew up communications office with South Korea in a border city

This happened after the promise of North Korea to send troops into the demilitarized zone.  The DPRK blew up an inter-Korean communications office in the border town of Qason, South Korean agency Younap reported with reference to the Ministry of Communications.

An explosion was heard from the city, then a column of smoke rose there.  Younap noted that the explosion occurred a few days after the statement of Kim Yong-jung (sister of Kim Jong-un), who promised to send troops into the demilitarized zone.  A statement came amid worsening relations between South Korea and the DPRK.

The Inter-Korean Communications Office was opened in 2018 to facilitate cooperation between the DPRK and South Korea, but in early January 2020 it was temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
