The party has asked for the sign on which an alleged anti-racist association is advertised, to be taken down.
The Cologne law firm Höcker lawyers sent a warning letter containing a request for cease and desist on behalf of the AfD, reported the legal magazine Legal Tribune Online.
On the sign on a door in the Rauthaus is “Respect! No place for racism,” under which the Internet address of the association “Respect” is specified. According to their own statements, they are committed to ensuring that people openly defend themselves against racism.
Both the initiative itself and the industrial union IG Metall, which acts as the official partner of the association, regularly position themselves against the AfD. With the reference to the website of the organization, Frankfurt’s Lord Mayor violated the principle of neutrality and objectivity, argues the lawyer.
According to Hessischer Rundfunk, AFD parliamentary group leader Rainer Rahn said: “We have no problem with the statement itself. If the Lord Mayor hung up a sign saying the Lord Mayor is against racism, that would not bother us.”
Feldmann criticized the AfD on Twitter: “That a sign saying ‘Respect! There is no room for racism’ at the entrance to the city hall annoys the so-called Alternative for Germany, I am not surprised. But the fact that the AfD is legally against it, has added a new dimension.”
Höcker then once again made it clear on the short message service that it was not about the statement, but about the “advertising of a political party which is anything but neutral organization”.
