US wants additional sanctions against Nord Stream 2
The US plans to expand sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 pipeline, Bloomberg reports referring to the bill plan that the agency has at its disposal.
The document says that US sanctions should cover all areas related to the completion of the Russian gas pipeline. New restrictions may include a company that provides services for the conversion and retrofitting of vessels laying pipes along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, as well as owners of auxiliary vessels involved in construction.
In addition, it is proposed to impose sanctions against companies that insured ships working on the completion of the gas pipeline.
The authors of the bill call the basis for the adoption of such severe restrictions the critical threat of the gas pipeline to the national security of the United States, Ukraine and the energy independence of Europe.
Earlier, Jens Muller, spokeswoman for the Nord Stream 2 AG pipeline operator, said any threats of additional sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would discriminate against European companies.
