U.S. intelligence reports on China's massive secret nuclear program

U.S. intelligence has received evidence that China conducts secret large-scale nuclear tests at the world's largest Xinjiang proving ground.  This was reported last week by the special representative of the US president for arms control Marshall Billingsley, writes The Times.

“You should take a look at what they are doing in Lobnor, where they have actually switched to year-round activities,” said Marshall Billingsley during a video conference with NATO representatives.  According to him, American satellite monitoring of this facility recorded a significant increase in the rate of production of weapons, "various types of short, medium and long range missile systems, ballistic missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, road-mobile, rail-mobile missiles."  “Like it or not, they have a full arsenal of missile systems,” Mr. Billingsley concluded.

According to the latest report of the Stockholm Peace Research Institute, by the end of 2019, China increased the number of nuclear warheads from 290 to 320. The United States has an arsenal of 5,800 warheads and Russia has 6,375. Mr. Billingsley is confident that China intends to equal its nuclear potential with Russia and  USA.  “Obviously, they intend to achieve some kind of nuclear parity both with the United States and with Russia, and regardless of whether this parity will be qualitative from the very beginning or, possibly, quantitative, this is what they intend to do,” the special representative believes.
