Spain's parliament has approved sending additional troops to Iraq. 450 Spanish soldiers are going to train Iraqi soldiers, and 25 staff members of the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard) will be sent to instruct the local police.

However, the decision has not been taken unanimous. A sufficiently large part of the deputies, mainly from the opposition parties, including Catalonian ones, think that the government has not enough developed its own system to ensure the safety of Spanish citizens.
