The decision of American President Donald Trump to withdraw part of the US military contingent from Germany has caused a rather ambiguous reaction from the Germans: someone criticizes him, someone welcomes.

The head of the Social Democratic faction in the Bundestag, Rolf Mutzenich, sharply criticized Trump's actions, saying that Germany should reconsider its cooperation with the United States.

"In my opinion, this must be done. In particular, cooperation in the field of armaments must be revised," Mutzenich stressed.

Representatives of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany say that the withdrawal of 12 thousand troops from the FRG is "regrettable", since such actions are the cause of "misunderstanding in the coalition." However, for Germany in the EU "there is no adequate and affordable replacement" in the security system built with the participation of the United States.

Mützenich notes that the United States should follow the military forces, they should "take out of Germany its nuclear arsenal." Berlin should understand that it should not expect predictable and measured actions from Trump. The leader of the Green faction, Catherine Goering-Eckard, agreed with him. According to her, instead of its soldiers, the United States should have withdrawn its nuclear weapons from the FRG.
