Elections of President in Serbia: March 19
Presidential elections could take place on March 19, Stanislava Pak, adviser of President Tomislav Nikolic, said.
She added that Nikolic and PM Aleksandar Vucic will come up with a joint stance on the presidential candidate in mid-February and rejected speculations about disagreements between the two officials.
Asked whether Nikolic should run for a second five-year term, Pak said that this is up to the president but voiced hope that he will join the race. She was also confident that if the senior ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) decides to back Nikolic's candidacy he will win in the first round. Recent polls, however, show a different picture – if Nikolic runs for the presidency he will have to face runoff which will be difficult for him to win. The current term of President Nikolic expires on May 31, 2017.
