Trump sets up Japan against Iran

US President Donald Trump and his spouse Melania arrived at the imperial palace in central Tokyo, where they met with the Japanese emperor Narahito.

This visit could be seen as Trump's attention to the change of emperor in Japan, a key US ally in the Pacific. However, the US president has shown that he wants to enlist support in confronting Iran. Trump also met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

President Donald Trump on Monday supported the Prime Minister of Japan’s interest in using his country's good relations with Iran to help establish a possible dialogue between the United States and its archenemy in the Middle East.

Trump and Abe held talks after the US President was the first of the world leaders to meet with the new Emperor Naruhito of Japan, who ascended the throne on May 1. The agency reports that the welcoming ceremony was very colorful and was conducted in accordance with the traditions of the Japanese imperial court. Trump's communication with Naruhito could only be prevented by the incredible heat that has set in Japan in recent days. The visit of the US President should show Japan that Washington is betting on Tokyo in opposing Iran and will not tolerate the Japanese retreating from their allied obligations, which now sets new tasks for the Abe cabinet.
