Nuland visits Kiev and Moscow

On June 21st, the assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs, Victoria Nuland, arrived in Kiev. Today, she will meet with the leadership of the country, after which she will travel to Moscow.

Formalities

The purpose of the visit is discussing bilateral and regional issues with Ukrainian officials, including reforms and the fulfilling of the Minsk Agreements. The website of the US State Department, however, does not specify with whom exactly Nuland will meet. In Russia, the agenda is similar, focusing on the situation in Novorossiya and the resolutions adopted in the format of the Normandy Quartet and the Trilateral Contact Group.

The organizer of the coup

Victoria Nuland herself stood behind the organization of riots in Kiev, the financing of the opposition, and the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych. Nuland represents the neoconservative wing of the American establishment which is interested in a harsh confrontation with Russia and defending Washington’s interests using the most radical methods. Nuland’s status allows her to effectively influence the countries of Eurasia through US diplomatic missions, as well as engage in subversive activities wit the aid of special agencies.

Possible consequences

For Ukraine, this visit means additional instructions for which people in the Ukrainian leadership will be accountable to the State Department. It is likely that a reshuffle of the government could take place after some time and reforms and additional laws which are profitable for the United States will be accelerated and adopted.

For Russia, the meeting with Nuland may have the character of a rhetorical discussion as long as the level of the hosting party is competent. It is in Moscow’s interests to insist on Kiev’s implementation of the Minks Agreements and not to let the US strengthen its positions. It should be taken into consideration that the purpose of Nuland’s` visit to Russia also consists of transferring new instructions to the US Ambassador and assessing the reality of the situation and relevant opportunities in Moscow. On the eve of elections in America, the State Department is extremely interested in obtaining reliable information in order to adjust its strategy.
