The US Department of State announced today, Monday, that the US is ready to resume the Vienna negotiations on the Iran nuclear deal, saying it hopes for a response soon from Tehran.

Erica Barks-Riggles, the representative of the State Department's Office of International Organization Affairs, told reporters that Washington is determined to achieve a mutual return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adding that the US is "hopeful to hear from the Iranians soon."

During his weekly press conference yesterday, Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh called on the US to return to the nuclear talks with a new approach.

Khatibzadeh stressed that Washington must abandon its approach of imposing illegal sanctions.

It is worth noting that Iran and other international powers, including France, held six rounds of talks in Vienna between April and June in an attempt to revive the nuclear deal.
