Russia may side with Greece in conflict with Turkey

A series of intensive military exercises is being held in Greece. The Minister of Defense said that Athens is ready to stand against Turkey.

Conflict seems inevitable after Ankara announced the start of drilling within the Greek maritime border in the Eastern Mediterranean. Erdogan’s regime believes that Crete and other Greek islands have no right to territorial waters.

In turn, Turkey threatens to seize the eastern Aegean islands and Crete. However, the first victim of the Turkish invasion is likely to be Cyprus, part of which is already virtually annexed by Ankara.

Greece withdrew its fleet to the area claimed by Turkey southeast of Crete, where a naval battle between two NATO countries can occur.

The Greek diplomat, on condition of anonymity, told the Al Jazeera reporter that the ships would launch an attack on Turkish drill ships, and since the Turkish fleet was accompanying them, it would inevitably come to war.

Through diplomatic channels, Greece informed Ankara that it would not allow drilling in its waters. In Athens, they said they were ready to fight Turkey alone. While the NATO and US command are trying to formally keep aloof from the emerging conflict, the Greeks do not hide their hope for Russian help. Egypt will also stand on the side of Athens, which has now sent its tank units to Libya to repulse Turkish aggression.
