Philippines cancels deal with U.S.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared the cancellation of purchase of police rifles from the USA.

Rodrigo Duterte said: «We will not insist on buying expensive arms from the United States. We can always get them somewhere else. I am ordering the police to cancel it. We don't need them. We will just have to look for another source that is cheaper and maybe as durable and as good as those made in the place we are ordering them».

Despite the fact that Duterte didn’t name officially other country, but most likely the Philippines is going to hold talks on purchase of police rifles with China.

The transaction is officially canceled because of high prices, but the real reason is likely to be called the fundamental anti-American turn in the Philippines and an overall reduction of the US role in the region.
