Nuland urges Kiev to create conditions for the Donbass elections

During her visit to Kiev, US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland at a press conference claimed that it is needed to create conditions for the elections to take place in Donbass.

"To achieve the implementation of the Minsk agreements it is mandatory ti restore  security throughout  Donbas region, it is also needed to return  prisoners and preparare for the  Ukrainian election, which would meet the international standards and the Constitution of Ukraine", - said Nuland

Katehon experts comment:

Victoria Nuland is an opponent of any concessions with Russia, so it would be naive to trust the sincerity of her peace-loving rhetoric prematurely. We continue to monitor the situation, however there is clearly something wrong and somewhere is a hidden catch.

This raises a number of questions concerning the  conditions for the holding of elections in Donbas: What are these conditions? On what principles they will be formed? Under what circumstances is the US ready to accept the results of elections in the Donbass?

If we follow the logic of the Minsk agreements, the elections is the next stage for the return of the Republic under the control of Kiev. Ukraine will remain a unitary state with US puppets ruling it. In any case, this whole discourse is hostile to the ideas of the people of Donbass.

The return of the territories of Donbass to Ukraine's control will be clearly perceived in Washington as a geopolitical victory over Russia.
