NATO Commander in Europe, US General Curtis Skaparotti arrived in Ankara for a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, Hulusi Ankara.

The meeting is taking place during the deteriorating situation in Syria. Following the escalation of the conflict in Heneke when American planes tried to prevent the operation of Syrian troops, Turkey stated that, despite the conflict with the Syrian government, Ankara will not allow Syria split along ethnic lines. At the same time, the new commander of US forces in Syria and Iraq, Gen. Stephen Townsend warned Moscow and Damascus of a possible collision. By that the United States admitted that  their aim is to divide Syria, while Turkey joined the Russian-Iranian-Syrian alliance.

In addition, NATO has recently issued a statement saying that Turkey continues to be an important partner of the alliance in the region. Ankara does not trust NATO as was mentioned earlier by the President of Turkey.
