Italy: Referendum begins

The referendum on such issues as changes in the country's constitution, the proposed amendments, which could seriously weaken the role of Parliament in favor of the government and, therefore, the prime minister has been started.

In fact, the Government proposes to abolish the upper house of parliament, making it an advisory body and reducing the number of senators to 100 people instead of the current number of 315. Moreover,

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has promised to resign if the referendum camp fails.

According to some opinion polls, the majority of Italians have opposed the proposed reforms. Despite the predictions of many Western analysts, Italian citizens are unlikely to be frightened of the political crisis, the subsequent resignation of the government: it would be quickly overcome. Posts of Ministers could be taken by candidates from the center-right and some Eurosceptic parties, which variant would be approved by Italians.

At the moment only 41% of citizens support the policy of Matteo Renzi.
