The Iraq Inquiry is to be published today

The Iraq Inquiry, also referred to as the Chilcot Inquiry after its chairman, Sir John Chilcot,is a British public inquiry into the nation's role in the Iraq War. The inquiry was announced on 15 June 2009 by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, with an initial announcement that proceedings would take place in private, a decision which was subsequently reversed after receiving criticism in the media and the House of Commons.

On 9 May 2016 Sir John Chilcot stated that the inquiry would finally publish its report on 6 July 2016, more than seven years after the inquiry was announced. Thus, the Iraq Inquiry is finally to be published today.

Thirteen years after British troops invaded Iraq Sir John Chilcot will deliver his verdict on the UK's military engagement.

Today Protesters have unveiled a giant banner calling for Tony Blair to face a war crimes trial over the Iraq War outside the former Prime Minister's home. Many UK citizens view the UK invasion in Iraq as a violation of the law.
