Famous Rio de Janeiro Jesus Statue Used To Push COVID Vaccine

The world-famous “Christ the Redeemer” statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was lit up with a pro-vaccine message this weekend.

A projector displayed the words “Vaccine Saves” and the same phrase in Portuguese, “Vacina Salva,” across the statue’s torso.

Below “Vaccine Saves,” the message “unidos pela vacina” was written, which means “united by the vaccine,” the name of an initiative created by women’s rights group Mulheres do Brasil Group.

This isn’t the first time the religious landmark has been used for propaganda in the COVID era.

In May of 2020, a message stating, “Wearing a mask saves” was projected onto the giant artwork along with a face mask covering Jesus’ mouth and nose.
