The Centre has sent about 4,000 paramilitary personnel to Manipur, where ongoing riots and ethnic clashes between the peoples of Naga and Manipuri (Meitei) caused by the government's plans to increase the number of administrative districts continue not during one month.

During riots a mutual blockade was organized between mountain areas (Naga) and lowland areas (Manipuri). Naga representatives have blocked the highway leading to the state capital Imphal, in response inhabitants of lowland areas have begun to stop and set fire to trucks traveling to the mountains.

More than 30 cars were burned during these riots.

Indian authorities are concerned about a repetition of the tragedy. As a result of ethnic clashes more than 1,500 people were killed.
