Mexico offered the United States to pay off for deterring migrants
It seems that Mexico could not stand the pressure of Donald Trump. The new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who promised to "put Trump in place" even during the election campaign, offered the White House his solution to the migration problem - the economic one.
The initiator of the negotiations was Trump, who one of the first foreign leaders congratulated Lopez Obrador on his victory.
The Mexican leader, after a half-hour conversation with Trump, suggested exploring the possibility of concluding a universal deal involving development projects that would create jobs in Mexico, thereby reducing migration and enhancing security.
In other words, Mexico offers the US the same approach, which is often said in Europe. It is better to create conditions for living in Africa and invest money there than to allow migrants to flood the EU. Whether Trump will agree to pay off with money is a big question.
Now the billionaire is forced to soften his usual tone.
At the end of last month, the migration issue sharply worsened in the United States. Last weekend across the country, including Los Angeles and New York, many thousands of demonstrations were held. The protesters demanded that the Trump administration reunite the separated families. The problem is that American border guards of illegal migrants automatically qualify as criminals and send them to prison. If illegals have children, they are taken away from their parents and placed in special centers.
In May-June, more than two thousand children were taken from Mexican migrants. Trump was under serious pressure, which was exerted on him not only by democrats, human rights activists and the UN, but also by Republicans. The wife of former President George W. Bush, in a special article for the Washington Post, called the policy of "zero tolerance" "cruel and amoral", citing the history of several children deprived of parents.
In the middle of June, Trump signed a decree prohibiting the forced separation of families, but the problem did not resolve it. The White House intends to completely stop the migration.
When people come into our Country illegally, we must IMMEDIATELY escort them back out without going through years of legal maneuvering. Our laws are the dumbest anywhere in the world. Republicans want Strong Borders and no Crime. Dems want Open Borders and are weak on Crime!
- Trump wrote on Twitter.
The scandal around the southern borders of the US shows that migration remains one of the main problems and trends of globalization. The massive resettlement of people from the South to the North changed entire governments in several European countries, such as Italy and Austria, and put the ruling coalition on the brink of collapse in Germany. The American philosopher Robert Kaplan in the book "The Revenge of Geography" argues that the South is the main threat to US national security, alongside with which the Middle East, North Korea and Russia can hardly be considered serious challenges.
