Sikh community is one the largest ethnic group in India. They are living in a peaceful way in their native Indian states such as Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Apart from their cultural values, the group is contributing immensely in the annual GDP of India. Sikh dominating states are being considered as backbone for Indian economy and agricultural sector. Despite their contribution, the group is not treated well as per their aspiration. They are being subjected to the discriminatory policies of Modi-led Hindu nationalist government. Their basic rights are being denied due to the stringent and anti-agriculture laws made by BJP’s nationalist fraternity.
The Sikh community is now getting worst treatment from Modi government especially on the policies related to agriculture.
The government is treating them as a second class citizen. It seems that there is no difference between other lower caste communities and Sikhs in India. This is one side of Indian government’s discriminatory approach. Since Modi became Indian primer, various developments like unprecedented rise of Hindutva ideology, persecution of minorities even of lower Cast-Hindus, forced conversions of other religious minorities into Hindus, ban on beef and cow slaughter, inclusion of Hindu religious books in curriculum, creation of war-like situation with Pakistan etc clearly show that Modi is encouraged by the Hindu fundamentalist outfits, who are on the driving seat in Indian government. The parties backing Modi such as BJP, RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena are promoting religious and ethnic chauvinism in India by propagating ideology of Hindutva. The secularism is no more in India under the reins of Modi and company.
There is division within Hindu community as well. The upper class Hindus like Brahmans considered themselves as elite class and superior then others. This parity existed in entire Indian states especially ruled by BJP. The bureaucratic model of these states is being designed by upper class Hindus. The lower class Hindus are not given suitable jobs in Indian government ranks. Same is the case with Muslims and Dalits. Hindu fanatics are targeting them and killing them. Their basic rights are being denied. This is what Modi’s India is. This is how minorities are being treated.
Likewise, in Modi’s so called new India, assaults on Christians, Muslims, including their places of worships and property have been intensified by the fanatic Hindu mobs. Dalits are living a miserable life and facing centuries of discrimination in all walks of life and suffering public shaming for generations at the hands of upper caste Hindus. They cannot perform their religious prayers freely. Atrocities against them are increasing at an alarming ratio. There are daily cases of killings of Dalits; resultantly thousands of Dalit’s are converting to Islam and Buddhism.
With the anti-farmers policies being approved in Indian parliament, thousands of farmers across the country are staging agitations against the government while demanding the reversal of farm laws. Demonstrations have spread across the country & represent largest-ever mobilization of farmers in independent India. Instead of taking to the farmers, Modi government is threatening them with dire consequences. The government is turning a blind eye to the rising numbers of Hindu vigilant attacks on farmers, livestock traders and farmers trespassing cows. The supply of internet and other basic necessities to protestor farmers has stopped.
The agitations by farmers have given new hope to the revival of Khalistan movement, a movement for the independent state of Khalistan. Their protests have now become global as world celebrates and leaders are joining their voices to criticize Indian government. Under BJP’s reins, so-called secularism has been replaced by Hindutva ideology. Despite their claim of being secular, the communal violence and repression of Muslims has been a recurring phenomenon in India. The states like Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland are demanding independence from India. The calls for more independent states are now growing with more pace and enthusiasm. No one can negate them.
Modi’s BJP along with other nationalist outfits such as Bajrang Dal, RSS, VHP and Shiv Sena have weaken the federation of India.
Now to diver the attention of people, it will blame Pakistan for the unrest and chaos in the country, which is indeed its modus oprendi. Not only Khalistan, Naxal rebels are also operating in 118 districts of 13 states out of 29 India states and covers 40% of India’s geographical area. Generations of IIOJ&K has continued to render untold sacrifices against fearful odds. Muslims of IIOK to this day, have found it impossible to identify themselves with Hindu India. “Sikhs for Justice” is planning referendum across Punjab and Punjabi majority areas for an independent state of Khalistan in 2022. Sikhs also want to reject article 25 (b) (2) of Indian constitution which says Sikhism is part of Hinduism. All this is being done by Indian people this time. No external support is there to incite the agitators against Indian government. This intifada is the result of Modi’s nationalist approach and dream to accomplish the idea of Akhand Bharat. Modi government is responsible for this internal chaos and unrest this time.
